Following the news that an Arabic and a Hebrew version of Facebook has become available, we have more good news from the highly popular social networking site: the Facebook homepage has received a makeover, it now features some interesting updates and changes. The purpose of this update is to make it easier for Facebook users to stay in contact with people they want to socialize with.

“As more and more is shared, we want you to be able to find out everything that is going on in the world around you at any given moment, or shape the stream of information most relevant to you. We set up a tour on Facebook for you to learn more about the product changes and to give you a way to offer feedback. We received over 30,000 emails, and want to thank all of you who wrote in to share your opinions. Today, we are beginning to roll out the new home page. The update will happen slowly, so everyone should have the new home page over the coming days,” explained Facebook’s Peter X. Deng.

With the new home page, Facebook users should find it easier to create new content while at the same time being kept up-to-date on what others are doing. Thanks to the real-time update feature (called Real-Time Stream), you can check out what your friends and other connections are currently sharing and thus gain access to content that is relevant to you. Real-Time Stream also enhances your ability to post comments or take part in real-time conversations.

Other features included in the new Facebook home page: Filters, Publisher (publish photos, notes or your status), and Highlights (events, photos or notes that you would hate to miss out on).

Peter X. Deng again: “To keep the design consistent across the site, you'll also notice that your profile will look a little different and more like the home page. The main difference is that your profile picture now appears beside the posts on the Wall tab.”
