The new Bing Bar (Bing toolbar for Internet Explorer 7 or newer that works on XP SP3, Vista, and Windows 7) isn’t the only one to show immensely popular social networking site Facebook some love. What I mean by that is that the toolbar offers easy access to friend requests, messages, Facebook notifications, newsfeed. It does a few other things – check out this article.

Hotmail, the free web-based email service operated by Microsoft recently showed Facebook some love as well. Back in September 2010, Group Program Manager with Windows Live Hotmail, Dick Craddock, announced that Hotmail users can chat with their Facebook friends from within Hotmail. He said at the time that the 250 million users who also use Facebook can easily stay in touch with their friends from within Hotmail.

The downer was that, at the time, this feature was not rolled out internationally. It was rolled out to six regions: US, UK, France, Brazil, Germany, and Russia. Craddock said at the time that this chatting with Facebook friends from within Hotmail functionality will be expanded to more regions in the future.

The future is now – the same Craddock has just recently announced that the option to chat with Facebook friends from within Hotmail has gone international. If Facebook is available in your country, it means you can chat with Facebook friends from within Hotmail.

“When we first announced the ability to chat with Facebook friends from Hotmail, we were only able to offer this to customers in six regions. Since then, we’ve been working with Facebook to increase availability, and a few weeks ago, we announced that the feature was available globally through Messenger. Today this is available around the world through Hotmail too,” announced Craddock.

To be able to chat with Facebook friends from within Hotmail, you will have to link your Facebook account to your Windows Live account and check the “Chat with my Facebook friends in Messenger” option. We’ll link your accounts (this may take a few minutes), and you can start a chat from Hotmail just by clicking on the name of a Facebook contact. If this doesn’t work right away, sign out and back in again, and you should be good to go,” added Craddock.
