Express Yourself with New Yahoo! Messenger Audibles

Yahoo Messenger has recently updated its rather popular software (reaching version 9.0.0.2018) and has even added a few new audibles. There are three new audible categories: Emoticats, Halloween and Vote. If you are a Yahoo! Messenger fan and you use audibles on a day to day basis, then this is probably not news to you – but still, it is a cool feature that deserves mentioning.

The Halloween audibles are not exactly a new feature to Yahoo! Messenger 9, or any other version of this software. This set of audibles is brought out every year, and is a means to celebrate the upcoming ghoulish festivities. There are three things that I like about these audibles: some are very festive (and by that I mean spooky), some will allow me to virtually egg the YM windows, and some are downright annoying (which is a good thing). Here is what I mean: when you want to talk to someone but that person is not answering your buzzes, try sending a couple of Halloween screams. I don’t think anyone can stand having a loud squeal coming out of their speakers for very long.

The upcoming US presidential elections have also found an audible-simile. Yahoo! Messenger now features 6 “Get Out and Vote” audibles which send a very clear message: take an interest in the political events that take place in the United States. The images associated with these audibles depict some of the most famous American icons: the Statue of Liberty, Honest Abe, Uncle Sam and the US flag. My favorite is the Statue of Liberty, but I am not going to let you in on the message she relays; you’re just going to have to find out for yourself.

Last but not least, the cute and cuddly Emoticats IMVironments have gotten their very own audibles. There are 8 audibles to play with, most of them displaying, drum rolls please, emotions (sad, worried, happy, etc).
