Following our report on Eset Smart Security Beta 4.0 from late last year, it is with great pleasure that we announce that Eset has finally wrapped up the development process of their security software solution by releasing Nod 32 Antivirus and Eset Smart Security Version 4. With this release Eset has addressed enhanced security issues and has streamlined the user interface (UI). If you have a Version 3 license you can upgrade for free.

“Perhaps this is a little relevant to some of our readers…We just released version 4 of ESET Antivirus (NOD32), and ESET Smart Security. If you have a valid license, then there is no charge for the upgrade. The upgrade is not automatic. For any number of reasons a person may want to choose to upgrade at a later time and we need to respect that. The installation of version 4 does not require you to uninstall version 3, however a reboot is recommended after the installation,” explains director of Technical Education with Eset, Randy Abrams.

As Eset points out in the release notes for Nod 32 and Eset Smart Security, there are numerous benefits to using these security software applications. We will focus on the new bits and pieces you can expect to get:

Enhanced Scanner – since malware spreaders and virus writers and continuously looking for new ways to infect your machine, this might mean that a threat will make its way to your network in an unexpected manner. Consequently Eset also scans HTTPS and POP3S communication channels (that are SSL-encrypted) as well as compressed files.

Email protection – Eset provides scanning capabilities for Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail, and other POP3/IMAP mail clients.

Removable Media Security – USB thumb drives for example can host all sorts of malicious software, and since self-running media poses a threat to your system, Eset scans autorun.inf to ensure you stay protected.

System Tools - ESET SysInspector and ESET SysRescue.

Other improvements – lower power consumption for laptop users; Advanced Protection Status keeps you up-to-date on threat detection; no pop-ups when running full screen apps; password protection; new keyboard shortcuts and user interface.
