Security company Emsisoft recently announced that it updated Emsisoft Anti-Malware to version 10.0. The exciting thing is that version 10.0 completes scans faster than before – a whole lot faster than before.

Scans that used to take a quarter of an hour, now complete in seconds. And scans that used to take half an hour, take less than 10 minutes.

“We spent quite some effort in tweaking the speed” said Christian Mairoll, Emsisoft CEO and CTO. He explained that on a reasonably powerful modern computer, you can expect to see a 97% reduction in scan times.

A Malware Scan (previously called Smart Scan) used to take about 13 minutes. It now takes 24 seconds to finish. A Complete Scan used to take some 30 minutes. It now takes some 6 and a half minutes to finish.

Here’s an image to better put things in perspective.

“We looked hard at areas where we can take better advantage of modern hardware and where we can use limited hardware resources more efficiently, while improving the quality of detection even further,” said the Emsisoft Team. “As a result, we have changed the way the dual-scan engine reads files from disk. It does not only use the full potential of fast SSD storage devices and multi-core processors, but also reads data in the most effective way for low memory usage now.”

Emsisoft customers asked for something more than fast scanning speeds. They also asked to be able to flexibly schedule multiple scans and they asked to be able to connect them with certain events. The Emsisoft Development Team delivered. With Emsisoft Anti-Malware version 10 you can, for example, run scans right after the PC boots up or run scans every end of the week, on Friday.
