EZTV is Down, but Not Out

TV show fans that rely on torrents to get their fix may have noticed that popular torrent site EZTV, which specializes in TV shows, has been inaccessible for the past few days. Hit eztv.it and all you’ll get is a “The connection was reset” error message. If you’re worried that EZTV went the way of the dodo, you need to be. The site is down, but it is not out.

After Mininova went legit, numerous torrent fans were worried that some anti-piracy, pro-copyright group may have taken down the torrent site, leaving its more than half a million daily visitors without their TV show fix. According to Freakbits, the sister sire of TorrentFreak, site that specializes in everything torrent-related, there is no reason to worry. The site’s downtime is due to hardware problems, not anti-piracy groups.

“For the last days the EZTV website has been inaccessible. Worried TV fans can be reassured though, the site will return as soon as the current hardware issues are resolved. There is no reason to panic, as the site is expected to return soon. FreakBits spoke with EZTV’s NovaKing who told us that he will fix the problems as soon as possible. The timing is not ideal though, as he is on holiday with limited Internet access,” said Freakbits.

I can understand why torrent fans are worried, seeing how anti-piracy outfit BREIN forced one of the most popular torrent sites out there to go legit. BREIN took Mininova to court and after a lengthy trial the court that the BitTorrent Mininova platform acts unlawful. Mininova had no choice but to remove all the torrents, except for the ones that are part of its Content Distribution Service. As a direct result, traffic to Mininova in the following days plummeted (from 5 million visits down to 1.8 million at the time, and who knows how much less now).
