Durability Test: Will the iPhone 7 Bend, Scratch, Drown?

Now that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have finally hit the market, it’s time to put them to the test and get answers to some crucial questions about durability.

Will the new iPhone 7 bend as easily as the iPhone 6? How hard is it to scratch the iPhone 7's screen, camera, or back? What will happen to the iPhone 7 if you fully submerge it in water or if you go surfing with it? The videos below have answers to all these questions.

iPhone 7 Scratch, Burn and Bend Test

JerryRigEverything used a set of mineral picks to find out where the iPhone 7’s screen falls on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. The iPhone 7, just like most other smartphones, started scratching at Level 6. The same goes for the phone’s camera and home button. A level 6 hardness pick managed to scratch them, but a razor blade did not. Speaking of which, the iPhone 7’s back survived getting scratched with a key, but it did not survive a razor blade.

The second test that JerryRigEverything performed was the burn test. The iPhone 7’s screen survived 10 seconds of direct contact with the flame. After 10 seconds, the pixels turned off and went completely black. A few moments later, they completely recovered.

The third and final test was to see if the iPhone 7 bends as easily as the iPhone 6. It does not!

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Drop Test

The guys at TabTimes wanted to see how Apple’s latest iPhone would fare, in case someone managed to drop it – not once, but 12 times.

Despite looking pretty fragile, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus did quite well in the test. There were some scuffs and scratches, obviously. But the screens didn’t crack, even when dropped directly on their face.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Water Resistance Test

The iPhone 7 is the very first iPhone to be water & dust resistant. It has an IP67 rating, meaning is completely dust-proof and it is water resistant when submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

Infohut put Apple’s claims to the test, and submerged the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in a glass of water for 5 minutes. They also submerged them in soda and coffee.

Jonathan Morrison took things even further, and kept an iPhone 7 in a bowl of water for 1 whole hour.

Fresh water is one thing, salt water is another. So Bad So Good took an iPhone 7 to the beach and gave it a nice bath in the ocean.

The iPhone 7 survived all these tests.

iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy S7 Water Resistance Test

Both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7 are water resistant. EverythingApplePro thought it a good idea to put these devices to the test and see how much water pressure they can take.

iPhone 7 vs. Galaxy S7 Edge Drop Test

This is PhoneBuff's drop test that compares Apple's iPhone 7 and Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge.

They also did an iPhone 7 vs. iPhone 6S drop test.

And so did EverythingApplePro

Wanton destruction – Crushing the iPhone 7 with a hydraulic press

The Hydraulic Press Channel couldn’t pass up the opportunity to destroy Apple’ brand new iPhone 7. So here it is, the iPhone 7 getting crushed, for no other reason but your amusement.

Here's SquareTrade's Water, Bend and Drop Test

SquareTrade put the iPhone 7 to the test as well. They found that it handles water very well. They also found that the iPhone 7 bends like its predecessors and breaks if you drop it.
