Great news for all the users out there who have a device powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system: the Dropbox app for Windows 8 has been released and is available for download in the Windows Store.

About a month ago Dropbox submitted its Windows 8 app to Redmond-based software giant Microsoft. Seems that Microsoft is done reviewing the app – the news is that Microsoft let Dropbox for Windows 8 into its Windows Store. As of this week, people from all corners of the world who want to use Dropbox on their Windows 8 or Windows 8 RT-powered devices can do so – they can get the Dropbox app for free from the Windows Store here.

The app provides all the functionality you would expect to get from Dropbox. And more to the point, here what the official list of features says:
  • Browse and preview all of your files and photos on Dropbox
  • Open, edit and save files from other Windows 8 apps
  • Share any photo, file or folder with the Share Charm
  • Find your files with the Search Charm.
Seeing that it has more than 100 million registered users, chances are that you’re already familiar with Dropbox. In case you’re not familiar with it, here’s a quick explanation: it is a cloud service that lets you keep your data synced across devices and lets you share data with other people. The files you put in the special Dropbox folder are uploaded to the cloud and synced across all your devices; these files can be kept private or they can be easily shared with others. Dropbox is available for all major desktop and mobile platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux, Windows 8, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and BlackBerry. You can install Dropbox on any desktop or mobile device and thus have easy access to your files.

Additional information on Dropbox is available on its official website dropbox.com.
