Dropbox recently announced that it entered a partnership with telecommunications company Vodafone. As part of this partnership, new Dropbox customers who purchase an iPhone or Android from Vodafone will get 25GB of cloud storage space for free for 1 year.

“With the Dropbox mobile app, your most important files and photos are always at your fingertips,” said Chris Barton. “We’re excited to bring that experience to millions more mobile users, through our new partnership with Vodafone,” he continued.

Also as part of this partnership, Vodafone will launch a new mobile-first service called Backup+. Dropbox will be integrated into the service; Vodafone customers will be able to use Backup+ to keep their mobile data safe: back up data to the cloud, sync data across devices, restore data on new devices, access and share data via the Dropbox mobile app.

Speaking about the Dropbox mobile app, it will come preloaded on most of Vodafone’s Android phones and will be promoted to iPhone customers.

Backup+ will start to roll out by the end of March, 2015. Vodafone customers in most markets will be able to start using it over the coming months. Backup+ will offer a range of attractive storage offers to Vodafone customers.

Speaking about Dropbox, smartphones, and mobile apps, I must bring up the fact that a similar deal used to be presented to Samsung customers. People who got a new Samsung Galaxy device and signed up for Dropbox, would get lots of cloud storage space for free. I bring this up because Samsung recently presented the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and Dropbox is no longer the default cloud service – it has been replaced by Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud service.

The new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge come preloaded with Microsoft’s OneNote notetaking application and with Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud service which offers 115GB of free cloud storage for a period of 2 years.
