Download Firefox 3.0.7 Stability and Security Update
Mozilla has issued an update for their popular web browser, Firefox 3.0.7, thus making it a more stable platform as well as enhancing the level of security users experienced while surfing the web. Speaking of security, one of the security holes version 3.0 plugs refers to evidence of memory corruption upon crashing. This vulnerability could be exploited by someone with malicious intent in order to run arbitrary code on the targeted machine.
“As part of Mozilla Corporation’s ongoing security and stability update process, Firefox 3.0.7 is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. We strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.0.x, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the Help menu,” Firefox Launch Coordinator with the Mozilla Corporation, Samuel Sidler explains.
Here are the new bits and pieces you can expect to get in Firefox 3.0.7:
- Enhanced security since several security holes have been plugged.
- Enhanced stability.
- Support for several new languages: Estonian, Kannada, and Telugu.
- If you select “Print”, the items in the “file” menu no longer appear as inactive. There was an issue when these items would be grayed out and would only get restored upon switching tabs.
- Cookies do not disappear any more.
- Fixed a problem with the Flashblock add-on used in the Mac OS X version where the Flash plug-in would play sounds a short time after closing the Firefox windows (or closing a tab).
- Several accessibility issues have been addressed.
With this update Mozilla once again drew attention to their Firefox 2.0 browser. Samuel Slider again: “f you’re still using Firefox 2.0.0.x, this version is no longer supported and contains known security vulnerabilities. Please upgrade to Firefox 3 by downloading Firefox 3.0.7.”
