Free Update 5 for Doom adds even more top-requested features to the award-winning and brutally fun first person shooter. As you can see in the full release notes below, the update has quite a lot to offer.

Out of all the new bits and pieces the update introduces, 3 main features stand out: bots, a new game mode called Infernal Run, and a higher level cap.

Bots

Doom players have been asking for bots ever since the game was in Beta. Now they have them. Free Update 5 makes bots available for Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes.

Infernal Run

Infernal Run is a new competitive multiplayer mode that reminds me of Rocket League. Teams have to fight to get the "ball" and take it into the opponent’s goal to score.

Echelon 11

And the third main feature that Free Update 5 introduces is a new level cap: multiplayer rank has been extended to Echelon 11. To help you reach it, Doom’s offering double the XP in multiplayer from now until December 12 at 12PM ET. And once you reach this new highest ranking, you will unlock the Doom Marine Armor.

"Be the envy of your peers by equipping the signature Praetor Suit, a reflection of the blood, sweat and… even more blood that you’ve shed in battle,” said Bethesda’s Jason Leavey. "The DOOM Marine Armor has also been added to SnapMap, along with more elements from the campaign, allowing you to play and create even more campaign-like experiences in DOOM. We’ve also added Lazarus Lab–themed modules, new props and other features."

At The Game Awards 2016, Doom did not win Game of the Year. Another shooter claimed that award, mainly Blizzard’s Overwatch. Doom won two other awards: Best Action Game and Best Music/Sound Design.

"This has been an incredible ride," said Game Director Marty Stratton while accepting the Best Action Game award. "Doom is a game that everybody knows to be relentless, and that’s because the team that made it has been relentless for the last three years."
