DinnerMode: Disconnect from Technology and Enjoy Life's Moments

Put your phone down, enjoy your meal, and have a nice chat with others while you’re having some food. You don’t have to keep your eyes glued to your phone’s screen. You can disconnect from technology and enjoy life’s moments.

If you find it hard to do that, DinnerMode is here to lend a helping hand. From its simple interface you can set a 15, 30, or 60 minute timer. Then you must put your phone on a stable surface and not pick it up again until the timer runs out.

Every Friday, after work, I meet up with a few friends. We enjoy a nice meal, and then we go someplace where we can have some drinks. Before smartphones, we socialized during dinner. After smartphones came along, we noticed that we spent dinner time on our phones instead of socializing.

The whole purpose of getting together was to socialize, catch up, and complain about stuff. But we weren’t doing that anymore! So a rule had to be imposed: no smartphones at the table.

You might have a similar problem. If you can put your phone away and forget about it, that’s great. If you can’t then you need to know about DinnerMode, an iOS app that aims to help you disconnect from technology and thus help you “enjoy life’s meals and moments.”

DinnerMode is incredibly easy to use. All you have to do is enable a timer and then put your phone done on your desk.

You can enable a 15, 30, or 60 minute timer.

After enabling the timer, you have 15 seconds to put your phone down.

Before you put your phone down, you can tweet that you won’t be checking your phone for a while. After the timer runs out, you can tweet about it and challenge your friends to beat your time.

Get Dinner Mode for iOS from Apple’s App Store.
