Dev Team Responds to iPhone OS 3.0
The iPhone OS 3.0, which Apple recently showcased during a conference at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, comes with a sleuth of new features an enhancements; features that would leave any iPhone users lunging to get the new operating system, regardless of the fact that its development process has yet to be completed. But if you care about jailbreaking the iPhone, then you would do better to resist this temptation.
The crafty people that brought us YellowSn0w, the iPhone Dev Team, have come out with this announcement: “With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.”
To my mind, the choice is simple. If you want don’t care much about jailbreaking the iPhone and are brave enough to put the iPhone OS 3.0 to the test, then by all means go ahead. If on the other hand you think Apple’s claim that “jailbreaking the iPhone is against the law” is nothing more than FUD , and would very much like to keep using YellowSn0w, then do no get OS 3.0. It is as simple as that!
The iPhone OS 3.0 will become generally available this summer – which is not that far away if you think about it. Current iPhone users will be able to get the upgrade for free while iPod touch users will have to pay about $10 for it. There is one more reason to make all that waiting worth it: the iPhone Dev Team is very much confident they can jailbreak the iPhone OS 3.0.
“For those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update,” said the Dev Team.
