Rovio Mobile, the developer behind popular puzzle video game Angry Birds, has recently announced that on the 11th of December 2010 it will celebrate the first ever official Angry Birds Day. The developer said that it wants people from all over the world to take part and celebrate Angry Birds Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the “alarming levels of avian-porcine aggression worldwide.”

“On this special occasion, we want to raise our concerns about the alarming levels of avian-porcine aggression worldwide. To our knowledge, at least three trillion piggies have been popped around the globe in 2010, with millions of feathered fowl lost in the process. It is time to stop for a moment and think about the consequences!” said Rovio in a blog post. “Surely there must be a constructive solution to this casual, yet relentless conflict? Surely we can find a civil solution to the disagreement between the Angry Birds and the Green Pigs?”

If you would like to celebrate the first ever official Angry Birds Day, here is what you have to do: go to meetup.angrybirds.com and join an Angry Birds Day meetup in your location. If there is no meetup in your location you can organize one. You can organize a meetup, get your friends together and show your support for the Birds – or the Pigs, if you like egg snatching pigs. At the time of writing this, 796 people from 61 countries have schedule 350 meetups.

Rovio Mobile will host a meetup of its own at Elisa Studio in Helsinki, Finland and will webcast interviews and chats with its developers, fans and friends.

The point of these meetups is to have fun, Rovio Mobile explained. Have fun by meeting up with other Angry Birds fans. And there are quite a few Angry Birds out there. The game, which has been on the market for one year, has managed to gain a multimillion following.

“In one year, Angry Birds has become a global phenomenon,” explained Rovio Mobile. “Different versions of the game have been downloaded to smartphones and tablets over 36 million times. People everywhere spend their bus trips, train rides, rainy days or other idle time playing Angry Birds, talking about Angry Birds, or creating fun stuff around Angry Birds. We thought that it would be a fantastic idea to join up with other Angry Birds fans and have even more fun!”
