To celebrate the fact that Bethesda finally rolled out the Creation Kit, NVIDIA is running a Fallout 4 Mod Contest and its offering $40,000 worth of prizes, including a custom-modded Fallout 4 PC worth $2,500 (if you’re lucky enough to win the grand prize).

Here's a quick look at all the main things you need to know about NVIDIA's Fallout 4 Mod Contest, like how to take part and what sort of prizes you can expect to win.

What must I do to take part in this contest?

You have to create a Fallout 4 mod using the Creation Kit. Once you’re done, you have to upload the mod to Bethesda.net. Then you must go to the official Fallout 4 Mod Contest page, where you can fill out and submit an entry form.

You have the liberty to choose what sort of mod to create. According to NVIDIA, you can choose from the following categories:
  • Status: Mods manipulating the way things work in the game, like dialogue, audio mods, patches, UI changes, and Utilities
  • Inventory: Mods based around creating weapons, enhancements to existing weapons, apparel, aids/chems, miscellaneous items, and more
  • Data: Mods focusing on new quests and Fallout 4’s Workshop mode
  • Map: Mods featuring new environmental elements— new towns, cities, vegetation, environmental art, and more
The mod you create and submit will be judged based on multiple criteria, including originality and creativity, overall graphical or functional quality and polish, and entertainment value.

Where can I get the Creation Kit?

"The Creation Kit is free to anyone with a PC copy of Fallout 4 and a Bethesda.net account,” NVIDIA’s Andrew Burnes explained. "Simply download the Bethesda.net Launcher, create a Bethesda.net account, and then login to the launcher. From the launcher, you can then download and install the Creation Kit.”

If you need help with the Creation Kit, documentation, tips and other useful information is available in the Creation Kit Wiki.

What sort of prizes can I win?

Overall, NVIDIA’s Fallout 4 Mod Contest offers $40,000 worth of prizes. That’s one grand prize, three 1st prizes (one per category), and 16 finalist prizes.

The grand prize is worth a whopping $10,000. It includes the custom PC I mentioned at the start of this article and engineering support from NVIDIA – 80 hours total, worth $8,000.

1st prize winners will get $5,000, a GeForce GTX GPU worth $700, and a Bethesda Gift bag that, among other things, contains a Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition worth $200.

The 16 finalists will get a GeForce GTX GPU and a Bethesda Gift bag.
