Back in October, Microsoft announced that it brought Contre Jour to the web. Earlier this month the company announced that the game got 20 new exciting levels.

With the aim of promoting Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10) and its HTML5 capabilities, Microsoft brought the popular and entertaining Contre Jour game to the web back in October 2012. The web launch turned out to be a great success – people from more than 100 countries played the game in their browsers. Spurred on by this success, the game’s creator, Maksym Hryniv, and the team at Pixel Lab decided to once gain collaborate with Microsoft’s IE team and make more levels available to an international audience.

Two new worlds – Friend World and Moon World – have been created, meaning that the Contre Jour game now has a total of 20 new levels to offer. As Microsoft explained, “these new levels show off the power of browsing in IE10 with fully accelerated HTML5, and advanced multi-touch support for a first class browsing experience on a tablet.”

“Bringing my game to the web really helped me reach new fans all around the world,” said Maksym Hryniv. “The first version was so successful that I wanted to create something truly unique for the web version. I decided to create a totally new chapter with visuals, gameplay and a new character. I think fans from my home country of Ukraine all the way to China and the U.S. will be pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of the new levels.”

If your browser supports HTML5, and most modern browsers do, you can play Contre Jour online at ContreJour.ie.

If you are not familiar with the game, here’s the lowdown.
  • Location: a hauntingly beautiful and mysterious world that’s shaped by the interplay of light and darkness.
  • Goal: to guide a mysterious creature to a target point.
  • Gameplay: you have to morph the landscape and you must pull, swipe and tap gadgets and thus guide the mysterious creature through the various challenging levels the game presents. While you use your cunning and dexterity to solve the clever puzzles, a David Ari Leon-composed soundtrack plays in the background.

Contre Jour is also available for the iPad, iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone.
