More good news comes from Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram. After having announced that it rolled out a new, redesigned front page that features interactive hand-drawn sketches, the Wolfram Alpha Team announced that it entered a partnership with South Korean multinational conglomerate company Samsung.

On Tuesday, July 10th, Wolfram Alpha announced that it entered a partnership with Samsung with the aim of bringing its computational knowledge functionality to Samsung’s smartphones. The Wolfram Alpha knowledge base will be included in the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3 smartphones.

“We are happy to announce that we have partnered with Samsung to bring Wolfram|Alpha’s computational knowledge to Samsung smartphones. The new GALAXY S III and GALAXY Note will now include the Wolfram|Alpha knowledge base with S Voice and S Note applications,” announced the Wolfram Alpha team.

The expert knowledge of Wolfram Alpha will be used to give answers to factual questions that Samsung S3 users ask using S Voice (S Voice responds to voice input and lets you search for info and control the device by using your voice). Wolfram Alpha will provide an answer when the user asks a question such as “What is the weather today?” or “How high is Mount Everest?

The expert knowledge of Wolfram Alpha will also be made available to Galaxy Note users via the S Pen optimized application available through the Premium Suite software upgrade. Galaxy Note users can write down a question or an equation and Wolfram Alpha will provide an answer for it. When the user writes down something like “Who is the prime minister of India?”, Wolfram Alpha will perform a knowledge search and provide an answer. And if the user puts down an ecuation such as “y = 2x + 3”, Wolfram Alpha will plot and solve it.
