Security company Comodo took Mozilla’s Firefox browser and tweeked it with security, privacy and speed in mind. The company ended up IceDragon, a faster and more secure version of Firefox.

What do you get if you take the functionality Firefox has to offer and make some privacy and performance features? Security company Comodo got a fast, easy to use browser that puts the emphasis on keeping you protected from malware and other threats. The name of that browser is IceDragon, a browser that “combines the freedom and functionality of Firefox with the unparalleled security and privacy of Comodo.”

Modern and even older machines will have no problems running Comodo IceDragon. Just take a look at the application’s system requirements and you’ll see why I say that.

Comodo IceDragon System Requirements
  • 128MB of RAM memory or more
  • 40Mb of free disk space
  • 32 or 64-bit version of Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

The core functionality Comodo IceDragon has to offer is the same core functionality you can expect to get from the Firefox browser. Comodo took this core functionality and tweeked it with a simple goal in mind: to offer Firefox fans a safer and faster internet experience.

Comodo IceDragon Main Features
  • Based on Mozilla Firefox.
  • SiteInspector malware scanning technology checks whether a web page is malicious before you actually visit that page.
  • Webpages load faster if you choose to use Comodo's Domain Name System (DNS) servers, free of charge.
  • SecureDNS has a domain filtering feature that protects you from harmful websites.
  • Social media integration so you can easily share things with Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn friends.
  • Privacy and performance improvements: removed crash report and performance data submissions, removed snippets service, all new update module).
  • Good looking interface designed after thousands of hours of careful usability testing.

Just like Friefox, IceDragon is free software. You can get it straight from Comodo here.

Please note that Comodo also has a secure browser built on top of the Chrome core – Comodo Dragon.
