Facebook prepared several new features for its Messenger app for Android: reach people faster, message your contacts, a new look.

Said new features are currently being tested with a limited number of people who use Messenger for Android.

On Tuesday, October 29th, Facebook announced that it started testing an update to Messenger for Android. This update helps you reach people faster, makes it easier to send messages to contacts, intros a new look, and makes the app faster and more reliable. The update is being tested with a limited number of Messenger for Android users.

“Starting today,” announced Facebook on Tuesday, “we’re testing an update to Messenger on Android that makes it a faster and more reliable mobile-to-mobile messaging experience. Beginning today, we will be testing this new experience with a limited number of people using Messenger for Android.”

The update helps you reach people faster by introducing a new icon. Here’s how said icon looks like.

When the icon shows up next to a contact’s name, it means that contact uses Facebook Messenger for Android. And if that contact uses the app, he will be notified the moment you send him a message. This way, you can reach people faster.

The update also makes it easier to send messages to contacts – contacts that are not friends with you on Facebook that is. If you have a contact’s phone number, you can use the Messenger app to send a message to that contact. Please note that you will have to confirm your phone number if you want contacts to be able to reach you.

Last but not least, the update introduces a fresh new look for the app. As Facebook explained, this refreshed look makes it easier to get around the app, access the Settings, view a list of people you message, and see recent conversations.

Facebook Messenger for Android is available for download in Google’s Play Store.
