Great news for all the people out there who love time lapse videos: Instagram rolled out an app called Hyperlapse, app that lets you capture high-quality time lapse videos – moving, handheld time lapses with a cinematic look, quality, and feel. As of now, the Hyperlapse app is available for iOS only. You can get it for free from Apple’s App Store.

“From documenting your whole commute in seconds or the preparation of your dinner from start to finish to capturing an entire sunset as it unfolds, we’re thrilled about the creative possibilities Hyperlapse unlocks. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create,” said Instagram.

Instagram recently announced that it rolled out a new app to the public. Called Hyperlapse, this new app lets you create time lapse videos using your mobile. Tap the circle at the bottom of the app to start recording, tap the circle to stop recording, use a slider to set the playback speed, tap the checkmark in the top right hand side to save your work. It is that simple to create a time lapse video with the new Hyperlapse app.

And because Hyperlapse features built-in video stabilization technology, you can create time lapse videos while in motion. “Traditionally, time lapse videos depend on holding your phone or camera still while you film,” the Instagram team explained. “Hyperlapse from Instagram features built-in stabilization technology that lets you create moving, handheld time lapses that result in a cinematic look, quality and feel—a feat that has previously only been possible with expensive equipment.”

Hyperlapse from Instagram – Main Features
  • Shoot time lapse videos using your mobile.
  • Stabilization technology lets you shoot videos in motion (walking, running, jumping, and so on).
  • Set the playback speed; speed it up to 12x.
  • Share videos on Facebook and Instagram.
  • You don’t need an account to create a hyperlapse.
The Hyperlapse app is currently available for iOS only.
