Calling All Designers: Enter the Customize Skype for Mac Competition
Last week Skype announced that it is launching a theme design competition and asked all interested designers to customize Skype for Mac. Skype said it is going to release an new Skype for Mac version in the near future and it would like designers to create a chat style for that upcoming release. The company even put together a template with everything the designers would need to come up with an interesting chat style.
"When we first launched our new Mac app, we were delighted to see so many custom styles emerge from the design community, so we thought we’d make it official,” said Product Manager for Skype for Mac, Krishna Panicker. “Between now and the 29th April, we’re inviting you to design your own chat style for Skype for Mac. We’ve assembled a team of experts to choose the very best, and if you’re the winner, we’ll include your design in a future version of Skype for Mac so that it can be enjoyed by millions of people around the world.”
If you take part in the competition you could win some pretty cool prizes. Here are the main dates you need to know about, and the prizes you could win:
April 8th – on this date Skype will start accepting submissions for the competition.
April 29 – the winners of the first Judge’s and People’s Choice Awards will be announced. Three winners of the Judge’s Choice Awards will get an iPad 2 (WiFi only), a copy of CSS3 for Web Designers, and a year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra. Three winners of the People’s Choice Awards will get an Apple TV, a copy of CSS3 for Web Designers, and a year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra.
May 20th – the winners of the second Judge’s and People’s Choice Awards will be announced. The winners will get the prizes mentioned above.
June 10th – the winners of the third and final Judge’s and People’s Choice Awards will be announced. Again, the winners will get the prizes mentioned above.
June 17th – the Grand Prize winner will be announced. The Grand Prize consists of an Apple 11" MacBook Air, an iPad 2 (WiFi only), and one year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra. As mentioned above, the winner’s design will be included in an upcoming Skype for Mac release.
The Customize Skype for Mac competition is open to 18 years or older registered Skype users. The competition is not open to residents of France, Italy, Romania, Bahrain, India, Korea, Rhode Island, Florida, New York, and Mexico.
