Piriform, the privately owned UK software developer dedicated to creating top quality applications for Windows, has recently announced that it updated CCleaner to version 3.01. People who like to keep track of such things will remember that Piriform launched CCleaner 3.0 about a month ago, at the end of October.

CCleaner 3.01 comes with several fixes and tweaks that make CCleaner faster than ever before, support for the recently released Adobe Reader X, and a change that should make Internet Explorer users happy – the need to reboot the computer after removing index.dat files has been removed.

“With millions of users, small improvements in speed can save a huge amount of time. We're very happy to announce that with this release CCleaner will not only start faster - you'll no longer need to reboot after cleaning Internet Explorer index.dat files!” announced Piriform in a blog post.

As mentioned above, CCleaner 3.0 was released about a month ago. Version 3.0 brought the following bits and pieces to the table:
- A refreshed user interface and icon
- A new Drive Wiper tool that securely erases the contents or free space on a specified drive
- A new 64-bit native EXE designed specifically for 64-bit systems
- Better support for IE9
- Better support for Google Chrome
- Improved cleaning support for HTML5 database storage
- Additional cleaning support for Microsoft Silverlight Isolated Storage
- Three new environment variables
- New Intelligent cookie keeping feature

If you’ve never heard of CCleaner, here’s the lowdown: it is a free, properly good utility that you can use to remove useless files that are needlessly taking up space on your computer, identify and fix Windows Registry issues, uninstall applications, and wipe drives clean. CCleaner has been on the market since 2004 and during this time it became a market-leading cleaning tool for Windows.
