As a big fan of Piriform’s CCleaner tool, I am glad to announce that CCleaner version 5.0 has graduated from Beta. Released by Piriform mid-November, CCleaner 5.0 Beta has been tested by thousands of users around the world. As Piriform explained, the Beta testers provided lots of positive feedback and loved the new design.

That’s the biggest change CCleaner version 5.0 has to offer – a fresh, a redesigned interface. This is a big change and I’ll tell you why: CCleaner’s interface has remained largely unchanged for the past decade. This is the first time in 10 years that CCleaner’s interface gets redesigned. If you want to see screenshots that show the old interface compared to the new interface, I invite you to check this article.

The new CCleaner 5.0 isn’t all about looks. The redesigned interface comes accompanied by significant performance improvements. Piriform explained that it optimized CCleaner’s internal architecture for better performance, that it added Google Chrome plugin management, and that it optimized the automatic update process (this last one is for Professional users only).

The latest CCleaner release right now is version 5.00.5050.
Here are the release notes for this release:
  • New improved GUI
  • Improved internal architecture for better performance
  • Added Google Chrome plugin management
  • Improved Google Chrome Startup item detection
  • Optimized automatic updates for Pro version
  • Improved system restore detection routine
  • Updated exception handling and reporting architecture
  • Optimized 64-bit builds on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10
  • Updated various translations
  • Many performance improvements and bug fixes

Piriform is working on a new Disk Analyzer tool for CCleaner. When work on this tool is finished and it becomes a part of CCleaner, you will be able to use it to “identify and drill down into the types of files taking up the most space on your drives,” as Piriform explained.
