To “kick off the summer” the development team behind popular multiprotocol instant messaging app Digsby has recently pushed out Build 79 (r27465) to all users. Build 79 fixes some annoying bugs, enhances existing features, and brings new features to the table.

Here is a detailed look at the bits and pieces you can expect to get from Digsby Build 79 (r27465):

Enhanced Spell Check

In the past the spell check feature covered just one language – English obviously. With Build 79 the spell check feature covers more than 50 languages. In the future the Digsby client itself will be offered in more than one language.

Facebook Chat and Facebook Login
The Facebook Chat implementation in Build 79 connects to a new set of Facebook XMPP servers. The good news is that these servers are more stable then the HTTP servers Digsby connected to. The other good news is that the XMPP servers report your entire buddy list instead of just friends who are online.

In Build 79 the Facebook Newsfeed and Facebook Chat login have been switched to OAuth 2.0. As the Digsby team explained, OAuth 2.0 is “more streamlined method for requesting permissions that Facebook announced at their last F8 conference.”

Twitter Achievements
Achievements were previously available only on Facebook and MySpace. With Build 79 they have been added to Twitter as well. Digsby will ask you if you want to enable or disable this functionality. If you want to turn it off altogether, you can do so by editing your Twitter account in Preferences.

Google Talk, Yahoo! Mail Fix
A bug that caused Google Talk to constantly disconnect if you have an iTeleport user in your buddy list has been fixed. A bug that caused Yahoo! Mail to fail to connect for some users due to a protocol change on Yahoo!’s end was also fixed.

Several other bugs have been fixed as well. You can read all about the bug fixes, changes and enhancements in Build 79 by checking out the Change Log.
