Block Annoying Ads in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome

No matter what browser you use, be it the latest Firefox 3.0.5 or the out of Beta Chrome 1.0, some ads will take forever to load, making them annoying twofold – first of all because they advertise something you probably are not interested in and secondly because they slow you down so much that no matter how many keyboard tricks you use, you will not be able to make that time up.

Blocking ads in Mozilla Firefox is as simple as downloading an add-on, mainly Adblock Plus 1.0.1. After you get the add-on all you have to do is right click on a banner and select “Adblock” – that ad will not load during for the duration of the session, nor will it load in future sessions. If you select a filter subscription then you will not have to worry about this right clicking business because Adblock Plus will automatically block the majority of advertisements on a certain web page.

For the security oriented online surfer that uses Mozilla Firefox, there are two additional add-ons that will come in handy: Flashblock 1.5.7.1 and NoScript 1.8.9.2. Flashblock will, as the name suggests, prevent Flash content from loading into the browser – this is a good idea not only because some sites go overboard with Flash content, but also because Flash has a negative impact on power economy . NoScript takes things even further: it prevents Flash, Java, JavaScript and other scripts from loading whenever you visit untrusted web pages (and I’m counting the recently hacked, official site of Paris Hilton as one).

Even though Google could have set up their Chrome browser to automatically block ads when surfing the web, this would have gone against Google’s Adsense and Adwords, so naturally they did not fit it with such a feature. Luckily enough there are some alternatives at your disposal, such as WebWasher Classic.
