Back in July we were reporting that BitTorrent, the company that develops and maintains the BitTorrent protocol as well as the BitTorrent and the uTorrent software applications, announced that, sometime this fall, it would release a paid version of uTorrent to the public, a version appropriately called uTorrent Plus.

BitTorrent explained at the time that the uTorrent Plus paid version would be a fully equipped torrent client meant to be used by those who want to enjoy extra convenience and want to take advantage of powerful new features.

BitTorrent also said at the time that the upcoming uTorrent Plus client is specifically designed for “people who are looking for a single solution to find, get and play content anywhere, on any device” and touted the fact that uTorrent Plus users will no longer have to deal with problems such as conversion issues or device shifting.

Today were are glad to report that uTorrent Plus has been released to the public. Not a stable, final version, but as a very early Alpha. The BitTorrent team announced on Thursday, October 6th, that a new Alpha version of uTorrent Plus has been released and that a small group of the most active testers has been invited to put uTorrent Plus through its paces. The BitTorrent team called this “as small but notable milestone for uTorrent Plus.”

The team used this “small but notable milestone” as an opportunity to showcase what the final version of uTorrent Plus. You may not be able to play with uTorrent Plus just yet, but you will in the future; and when you will, here are the features you;ll be able to put to the test:
  • Integrated anti-virus from our partners at BitDefender
  • Drag and drop file conversion (transcode files and move them from your PC to your other devices)
  • A built-in media player
  • Remote file transfers
  • Dedicated customer support.

Information on when the final, stable version of uTorrent Plus will be released has not been made public.
