Here are a couple of BitTorrent-related news that go pretty well hand in hand. BitTorrent, the company that develops and maintains the BitTorrent protocol, the BitTorrent and the uTorrent software applications, has shed some light onto how popular its two software applications are.

BitTorrent announced that the number of active monthly users has reached the 100 million mark. Each month there are a grand total of 100 million people all over the world who actively use BitTorrent Mainline and uTorrent. Those are the monthly statistics BitTorrent released; the company released some daily statistics as well.

The company also announced that there are over 20 million daily active users and more than 400,000 daily client downloads. Users from more than 220 countries check in on a daily basis.

"This is an exciting day for our team. Our vision is to build a complete technology ecosystem comprised of software, content and devices, designed to connect modern content creators with a massive digital audience," said Eric Klinker, CEO at BitTorrent. "This milestone highlights the size of our user base and the power of our software."

That’s the first piece of news I mentioned in this article’s first paragraph. Let’s move on to the second one, shall we? AS you may already know, TV shows aired in the good old US of A take a bit of time to make it onto the TV screens of viewers from other parts of the world. It can takes months and even more for TV shows to be aired outside the US and this is not good; not when you can turn to torrent sites and download the latest episode of your favorite TV series.

TorrentFreak, site that specializes on everything torrent-related, says that “TV-shows have traditionally increased in popularity on BitTorrent year after year”. In 2010 the most popular shows on BitTorrent were, drum rolls:
  1. Lost
  2. Heroes
  3. Dexter
  4. The Big Bang Theory
  5. House
  6. How I Met Your Mother
  7. 24
  8. True Blood
  9. Glee
  10. Family Guy
