Late this June the team behind Microsoft’s Bing decision engine launched a competition to the public: come up with a Bing jingle, upload it to the Bing YouTube site by the end of the month and you can win a $500 American Express gift cheque. The winner of the competition has been announced yesterday, the 5th of august, just as scheduled. Without any further ado, the winner of the Bing jingle competition is YouTube user The Rock Cookie Bottom, Jonathan Mann.

The Bing team’s official announcement: “We want to thank everyone who submitted their Bing jingles to our Bing YouTube site. We were amazed at the creativity and variety of all the entrants. After much anticipation, a multitude of voting and discussion, we are very pleased to announce that the winner of the very first Bing Jingle contest is “Bing Goes the Internet” by Jonathan Mann.”

You can watch the winning Bing jingle on YouTube here – but consider yourself warned as it can prove to be annoying at first, then it gets stuck in your head and you’ll find yourself wandering the streets and singing “Bing goes the internet.” Or is it just me? Good for a laugh though.

The Bing team also explained that Jonathan Mann, in coming up with the Bing jingle, used a homemade green screen, sang in front of it and tried to come up with something that would be amusing and a bit off. The homemade green screen, in case you didn’t figure it out, is a wall in Mann’s home that he painted green.

The Bing team again: “His concept from the beginning was to have fun and make it a bit silly. He thought the idea of searching for "Learn how to dance like Jonathan" while dancing in the foreground would be pretty hilarious. And lucky for us it was both catchy and funny!”
