Microsoft updated the Bing Desktop application and, among other things, added support for the popular Facebook social network. You now have easy and convenient access to Facebook from within Bing Desktop.

Get the latest version of the Bing Desktop application, version 1.2, and you will be glad to find out that it now has some social networking features. Thanks to Bing Desktop you will not have to launch your browser to view Facebook updates, posts, comments, or photos. That is because the recently updated Bing Desktop comes with support for the incredibly popular social network. Just click the Facebook icon, log into your account, and you will have easy access to Facebook from within Bing Desktop.

That is the chief change the updated Bing Desktop has to offer – its not the only one, I am glad to report. Another nice new feature refers to making it even easier to access the Bing search engine.

You can now set a hotkey to bring up Bing Desktop and there are now three options for minimizing the Bing Desktop application:
  • Minimize to taskbar – a button will remain in the taskbar.
  • Minimize to system tray – there will be an icon in the system tray.
  • Minimize as toolbar – check out the image below to see what this option does.

The reason why I love Bing Desktop is because it sets a high-quality, good looking image as my desktop wallpaper. Bing features a different image on its homepage each day – Bing Desktop takes that image and sets it as the desktop wallpaper. I bring this up because the updated Bing Desktop comes with a new setting that let you choose which recent Bing homepage image you would like to set as the desktop wallpaper. You can browse through recent Bing images and set whichever you want as the desktop background.

The updated Bing Desktop v. 1.2 is available for download here and here.
