Bing Decision Engine Now with Microsoft Translator Instant Answers
Bing, the search engine that Microsoft is marketing as a decision engine for the simple fact that it can go beyond search, it can actually help you make a decision, is now capable of instantly translating queries from one language to another. All you have to do is type in something like “translate I love you” and you will get an instant translation answer just like in the image presented at the bottom of the article. The instant translation feature that Bing provides is powered by Microsoft Translator.
Instant Answers Product Manager with Bing, Theo Vachovsky, comments: “One of the things we’re focused on with Bing is bringing the answer you’re looking for to the top of your search result to save you the time of wading through a sea of blue links. Whether it’s getting the answer to a conversion or checking on your flight status, instant answers get you the information you want, quickly. We’re excited to announce the newest instant answer in Bing, the translation instant answer. If you’re looking to impress your friends around the globe, you can now buff up on some common phrases in various languages using the translator instant answer in Bing.”
If you want to take the new feature for a spin, just visit Bing here and type in a few queries. But keep in mind that Bing provides localized versions, and the instant translation answers feature is only available for the United States (English) version. Don’t worry, all you have to do is go to Search Worldwide (click here or click on the country name you see in Bing in the top right hand corner) and select “United States – English”.
In related machine translation news, Google has recently rolled out Google Translator Toolkit which takes advantage of automated translation functionality while adding a human touch to it all (detailed article here).
