Apple’s $3 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics received both US and European approval last week. To celebrate the fact that the acquisition went through, Apple added a Welcome to the Family webpage on Apple.com. It reads as follows:

"Today we are excited to officially welcome Beats Music and Beats Electronics to the Apple family. Music has always held a special place in our hearts, and we’re thrilled to join forces with a group of people who love it as much as we do. Beats cofounders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have created beautiful products that have helped millions of people deepen their connection to music. We’re delighted to be working with the team to elevate that experience even further. And we can’t wait to hear what’s next."

Now that the Beats acquisition went through, Apple isn’t wasting any time in promoting Beats products. As a matter of fact, Apple added a Beats by Dr. Dre section on the accessories part of its online store. Apple sold Beats products in the past as well. But now that Beats Electronics is part of the Apple family, Apple is more interested than ever to promote and sell Beats headphones and accessories.

The Beats by Dr. Dre website suffered a change that is worth mentioning: if you want to purchase something from the website, you are redirected to Apple’s online store.

By purchasing Beats Electronics, Apple purchased the following:
  • Beats by Dr. Dre – line of premium consumer headphones, earphones, and speakers.
  • Beats Audio – patented software technology.
  • Beats Music – critically acclaimed subscription streaming music service.
It will be interesting to see how Apple will integrate Beats Music into iOS. There are more than 800 million iOS users out there. If Apple gets 1.25% of them to sign up for Beats Music, it will have the same number of subscribers as Spotify.
