Backup Exec System Recovery Becomes Symantec System Recovery 2011

Symantec, company that specializes in providing antivirus, antispyware, and internet security software solutions, has announced that the application known as Backup Exec System Recovery has been rebranded as Symantec System Recovery 2011. Symantec explained that with Symantec System Recovery 2011 it aims to provide organizations of all sizes a tool to solve their data, system and application recovery challenges.

To better put thing in perspective, Symantec System Recovery 2011 can deal with the following challenges:

- Complete system recovery that covers dissimilar hardware, bare metal, remote locations or virtual environments.
- Helps customers meet recovery point objectives through granular recovery of physical and virtual environments.
- Automated monitoring and recovery for virtual applications running in VMware with Symantec ApplicationHA.

Vice President of Product Management with Symantec, Amit Walia, said that: “Symantec offers proven technology to help our customers recover data, systems and applications to avoid disruption to their business. Symantec System Recovery shortens the recovery time window with new features such as the ability to transform a USB device into a recovery disk and additional flexibility to the customizable recovery disk wizard.”

The newly released Symantec System Recovery 2011 comes with a host of new features. The following ones:
  • Transform a USB device into a bootable Symantec System Recovery Disk and into a backup storage device.
  • Centralized management (manage large numbers of clients from a single management server) with Symantec System Recovery Management which can be installed to and hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit environments.
  • The customizable recovery disk wizard is even more flexible. The option to select an ISO image as the source for a custom recovery disk has been added.
  • Updated support for the latest Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer operating systems and applications.
