Baby Steps for Firefox 3.1 Beta 2
The second Beta version of the Firefox 3.1 browser was supposed to land on the 11th of November, but due to bug issues the Mozilla team had to delay the software’s release. Once the 15 bugs and the “uncooperative tree” problems are dealt with, Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 should be ready for its much awaited release.
What you should take note of is the fact that the number of release blockers is increasing (which is kinda weird). According to Mike Beltzner, lead program developer with Mozilla, the number of blockers has now jumped to 103 while last week there were only 78. What this means is that once all the kinks are ironed out from the Beta 2 version, the team will start work on a 3rd Beta, as opposed to letting the release candidate loose on the web. Depending on how you look at it, this is good news or bad news. It is good news for the extension developers as they get more time to work on the compatibility issues related to using said extensions in Firefox 3.1. If you are one of the 150,000 people that has downloaded 3.1 Beta 1 and can’t wait to get your hands on the second Beta, then this is bad news.
One of the most awaited features that Firefox 3.1 has to offer is the Private Browsing mode. Just as the name suggests, when you want to hide your browsing from the scrutiny of others, just select the “porn mode” option and you will surf the web in complete privacy.
And in related news, the Mozilla team is celebrating Firefox’s fourth anniversary. Version 1.0 of the now hugely popular browser was released on this exact month, back in 2004. At the time Firefox v. 1.0 came with a series of spectacular features, such as fraud protection, pop-up blocking, tabbed browsing and integrated search. A long time has passed since then and during it all the Firefox team had just one goal in mind: to develop an increasingly efficient software product that improves upon the user experience.
