Security company Avira recently announced that its malware scanning engine will be used by Tencent’s QQ Mail division to protect its more than 300 million email service customers.
Tencent, China’s largest and most used Internet service portal, decided to license Avira’s SAVAPI anti-malware scanning engine and thus rely on Avira to protect its 300 million email service customers. Tencent’s QQ Mail division will use Avira’s malware scanning engine to scan for and remove malware that may affect its millions of customers.
There are numerous other security companies out there, so why did Tencent decide to go with Avira? It seems it is all about reputation, industry reputation that is. And there’s another reason: he ease with which Avira’s technology can be integrated via the SAVAPI SDK.
Here is what Avira CEO Travis Witteveen had to say on the topic:
“Avira software has been localized for Chinese languages since 2010, which demonstrates our commitment to the China market. And our technology has been proven to be able to scale to hundreds of millions of customers, so we were a natural choice for Tencent,” said Travis Witteveen. “We are pleased that Tencent has put their trust in Avira.”
And here is what Tencent’s Jeffrey Du had to say on the matter:
