Mountain View-based search engine giant Google may be considering pulling out of China because the authorities would not let it stop censoring search results – in this regard Google has already closed down Google.cn and is redirecting users to Google.com.hk – but this is not to say that others would not welcome the opportunity to enter the Chinese market. German security software provider Avira for example would like to enter the Chinese market – and it has.

Avira announced in a press release that in its stride for a global expansion, it formally entered the Chinese market today. Avira opened an office in Beijing and will make its Avira Antivir solutions available in Simplified Chinese to the approximately 2 million computer users in China. Computer users in China will soon be able to visit www.avira.cn, a website in the local language.

“Thanks to the free version of Avira AntiVir we already have a flying start in the Chinese market. Avira is already a trusted brand among computer users in China, and known for its high detection rates and fast scanning speeds. Now we are making the very best ‘Made in Germany’ software available to consumers in China to combat computer viruses and malware,” commented Founder and CEO of Avira, Tjark Auerbach. China is a vital component of our strategy for global expansion and we believe the high quality and legendary security of Avira’s products will win over customers by bringing more convenience and peace of mind to Internet users in China.”

Speaking of Avira, the company recently rolled out Avira Antivir version 10 , which comes with the following highlights:
  • Behavior-based protection – this is on top of heuristic, generic and pattern-based scanning methods.
  • Enhanced protection thanks to the intelligence on emerging virus threats collected from the 100 million-plus Avira users.
  • A generic repair feature that allows Avira Antivir to look for and remove any residual data left behind on the hard disk or in the Windows Registry after an infection has been removed.
  • Parental controls.
  • Revised user interface that provides a better overview of available features.

All editions of Avira Antivir version 10 can be downloaded straight from the company’s official site here.
