Avira, company that specializes in providing antivirus, firewall, antispam, and recovery solutions against malware infection to Windows and Linux users, has recently announced that its freeware security software solution has more than 1 million users in Japan.

An Avira subsidiary was founded back in November 2009. The following month, in December 2009, the company rolled out Japanese language versions of its security software products. Just like it dos on the English speaking market, for no charge whatsoever, Avira offers entry-level products to computer users that want to stay safe and secure. It was only after the Japanese language versions were rolled out that Avira saw a considerable increase in customers.

“Avira's success in the daily battle against malware is reflected by our rapid growth – today we are adding new Avira users at the rate of one per second. Hitting the one million mark in Japan so quickly validates our decision to focus on the Japanese market and we will continue to cater our solutions and services on our users' needs,” explained Director of Sales & Marketing at Avira GmbH, Travis Witteveen.

To celebrate breaking the 1 million user mark, Avira is running a special promotional campaign. During the campaign, which lasts 1 million seconds (or 12 days), Avira offers a 25% discount on the Japanese versions of Avira AntiVir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite. The campaign lasts until the 25th of April – it will draw to a close at midnight, Japan local time.

Just to put things in perspective, the regular of Avira AntiVir Premium is of ¥ 3500. The regular price of Avira Premium Security Suite is of ¥5000.

In related news, a couple of weeks back, Avira announced that it entered the Chinese market. Avira opened an office in Beijing and will make its Avira Antivir solutions available in Simplified Chinese to the approximately 2 million computer users in China. Computer users in China will soon be able to visit www.avira.cn, a website in the local language.
