Avast's Looking for, Wants to Reward 180 Millionth User

Back in August we were reporting that Avast has a grand total of 160 million registered Avast! Free Antivirus users. Fabricia from Brazil, the 160 millionth user to register the free antivirus product was rewarded with an all expenses paid trip to Prague and lodging at a 4-star hotel for herself and a friend, a tour of Avast’s headquarters and a traditional dinner and drinks with Avast’s management team, a free 1 year license of Avast! Internet Security, and an Avast T-shirt.

The number of registered users has increased since then. At the start of November, a user known only as “Thomas” downloaded and registered Avast! Free Antivirus – Thomas was the 180 millionth registered user. As such he won an all expenses paid trip to Prague for two. Here comes the funny part – at least funny for me.

It seems that Thomas, the 180 millionth registered Avast! user is nowhere to be found. Avast tried to get in touch with him to inform him that he won an all expenses paid trip to Prague, but Thomas has yet to respond. Avast really wants to get in touch with Thomas and give him his award, but Thomas is MIA.

“We really do want to find him and give him this prize,” said Avast Software CEO Vince Steckler. “Not only are we the only security software with over 180 million registered users, we are also the only one rewarding our users. I enjoyed meeting Fabricia from Brazil and I would like to meet Thomas,” Steckler added.

Avast is calling on the community to help find Thomas. All Avast users who have a friend named Thomas are urged to check and see if that friend downloaded Avast! Free Antivirus. Then they should tell that friend to check his email for a message from Julia Szymanska. Perhaps Thomas will be so moved that he will take you on the all expenses paid trip to Prague.

Based on how many people register their version of Avast! Free Antivirus, some 100,000 per day, it is estimated that by early 2012 Avast will have 200 million registered users. Steckler said that “We are planning a really special prize for that person but we would like to find Tomas first.”
