AVAST Software, the Prague-based company that specializes in the development of security software solutions for Windows, Mac and Linux, has announced that its users kept asking for Avast! WebRep for the Google-developed Chrome web browser. And since AVAST Software is the sort of company that takes user feedback seriously, that is precisely what it did.

Yesterday, the 20th of April, AVAST Software announced that Avast! WebRep is now available in the Chrome browser as part of the latest Avast! 6.0 update. Avast! WebRep uses information collected from the global Avast! user community to assess the security of websites. When turned on, the application tells you if it’s safe to visit a specific site; next to a site’s link you wil see a color-coded icon that shows you how the community rated that site.

“Since the release of Avast! 6.0 on 23 February, this feature had been available only in IE and Firefox browsers, but the most recent version of Avast! 6.0 included this functionality as well for Chrome,” said AVAST. Speaking of version 6.0, when AVAST Software rolled this version out it said that Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0 is “leaner and meaner” than any previous version.

Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0 features eight real-time shields and two new script and behavior shields. You can enable/disable each shield individually and play with their individual settings. To offer even more protection, Avast! Free Antivirus 6.0 comes with a web reputation plugin (warns you when you want to access dodgy sites) and an AutoSandbox (lets you test suspicious programs in a sandbox, in a restricted environment that poses to threat to your system).

If you would like to get Avast! Free Antivirus version 6.0, you can download it straight from AVAST Software here.

By getting this free security software solution you will join a community of more than 150 million users. It was back on the 4th of March when the 150 millionth user clicked the register button; AVAST Software rewarded her with an all expenses paid trip to Prague for two and $2,000 spending money.
