Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) has been made available for download to the general public, as any Microsoftie is well aware of. Alongside Win7 RC, Redmond-based software developer Microsoft also put out a few other interesting pieces of software; things like Windows Virtual PC Beta with XP Mode, Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate, User State Migration Tool (USMT), Automated Installation Kit (AIK) and Remote Server Administration Tools. The first software apps we’re covered by us (just click the links), the latter two were not, so here goes.

Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7 Release Candidate, as Microsoft describes it, is a collection of “tools and documentation that support the configuration and deployment of Windows® operating systems. By using Windows AIK, you can automate Windows installations, capture Windows images with ImageX, configure and modify images using Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management (DISM), create Windows PE images, and migrate user profiles and data with the User State Migration Tool (USMT). Windows AIK also includes the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT), which enables IT professionals to automate and centrally manage the volume activation process using a Multiple Activation Key (MAK).”

Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7 applies to the following platforms: Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 R2 SP3, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Vista SP1.

Moving on to Remote Server Administration Tools for Win7 RC, it must be said that it will allow IT admins to manage a remote computer running Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Sever 2003 from their Windows 7 RC powered machine.

“Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 RC enables IT administrators to manage roles and features that are installed on remote computers that are running Windows Server 2008 R2 (and, for some roles and features, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003) from a remote computer that is running Windows 7 RC. It includes support for remote management of computers that are running either the Server Core or full installation options of Windows Server 2008 R2, and for some roles and features, Windows Server 2008. Some roles and features on Windows Server 2003 can be managed remotely by using Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 RC, although the Server Core installation option is not available with the Windows Server 2003 operating system. This feature is comparable in functionality to the Windows Server 2003 Administrative Tools Pack and Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1),” explains Microsoft.
