Ingress, Top Game of 2013 at Google Play Player’s Choice Awards, has recently been rolled out to the App Store.

iOS users can finally enjoy a really cool augmented-reality game. As its official description goes:
Ingress transforms the real world into the landscape for a global game of mystery, intrigue, and competition.

Ingress Game – The Story

A team of scientists uncovered a mysterious energy in Europe. While they cannot uncover its origin or its purpose, the scientists are convinced that this energy influences the way we think. Unless we control this mysterious energy, it will control us.

The Enlightened want to gain the power this energy can bestow upon us. The Resistance wants to protect and defend humanity. You must pick a side, find portals, and battle over control of said portals. I almost forgot: portals are the source of the mysterious energy mentioned above.

Ingress Game – The Gameplay

Using a map, you have to walk around your city and search for portals (they’re usually public works of art, historical sites, landmarks, and so on). Once you find a portal, you must capture it for your faction. Captured portals are linked to create virtual triangular fields over geographic areas.

You can find items dropped by other players, deploy tech to capture territory, form alliances with other players, purchase objects to help in your quest.

Ingress Game – Availability

The Ingress augmented-reality was originally rolled out to Google’s Play Store. Makes sense since the game was developed by Google's "in-house startup" Niantic Labs. The good news is that Ingress has recently been rolled out to iOS as well. Android and iOS users can play this cool game now.
  • Ingress for Android is available on Google’s Play Store.
  • Ingress for iOS is available on Apple’s App Store.
