On the 23rd of March, Opera Software, the Norwegian software company we all know for making the Opera web browser, submitted Opera Mini for iPhone to Apple’s App Store. It took 20 days, 8 hours and 31 minutes but Apple has finally accepted the app into its App Store. This event occurred on the 12th of April at 20:56:00 UTC.

Why all this focus on the precise time when Apple approved Opera Mini for iPhone? Simply because Opera held a contest – guess the time when Opera Mini for iPhone will be approved and you could win an iPhone. The winners of this contest are wearymadness and citizenzaqx. Their guess, that Opera would be approved on April 12, at 21:00:00 UTC was the closest and won.

Getting back to the app itself, here are some reasons why you would like to get Opera Mini for iPhone. The browser offers up to 6 times faster download speeds. The browser can do this because data is routed through Opera’s servers before reaching your mobile device. By routing data through their servers, Opera can compress images and text before sending it to you - which reduces data traffic by up to 10 times. Opera Mini for iPhone comes with features that Safari does not have, like find in page, saved passwords, adjustable image quality, full screen browsing, adjustable font sizes and customizable skins.

"We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “This app is another step toward Opera's goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places."

All over the world there are some 50 million people using Opera’s browser on their Windows, Mac or Linux powered desktop computer. Additionally, there are some 50 million more people that use Opera Mini while on the go, on their mobile devices. The large number of users is proof enough that the Opera browser is a properly good piece of software. It is also proof that the number of Opera users has seen a considerable increase – a 30% increase between March 2009 and March 2010.

“Our focus on speed, security, innovation and usability continues to yield results. We always listen to the needs and wants of our users, and they reward us by choosing Opera,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software.
