Apple Watch, the device that Apple fans all over the world have been waiting for, is finally here… sort of. Apple presented the device and said that it will launch three distinct smartwatch collections early 2015: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. These three collections will be available in two different sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm. The smartwatches in these three collections will come with 11 watch faces - traditional analog face, dynamic Timelapse face, sundial Solar face, and more.

“Apple introduced the world to several category-defining products, the Mac, iPod, iPhone and iPad,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “And once again Apple is poised to captivate the world with a revolutionary product that can enrich people’s lives. It’s the most personal product we’ve ever made.”

Apple Watch

There are a total of 18 models in the Apple Watch collection. They are characterized by a polished stainless steel or space black stainless steel case, a display protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a nice selection of bands – three leather bands, a link bracelet, a Milanese loop, and a band that’s made from high-performance fluoroelastomer.

Apple Watch Sport

There are a total of 10 models in the Apple Watch Sport collection. They are characterized by a light and strong anodized aluminum case, a display protected by strengthened Ion-X glass, and colorful fluoroelastomer bands meant for an active lifestyle.

This is the perfect time to mention that Apple Watch comes with and app that motivates people to be more active and with an app meant for people with an active lifestyle:
  • Activity app – motivates you to be more active throughout the day. It tells you how many calories you burned which, in my mind, is a great motivational tool.
  • Workout app – provides the metrics you need during dedicated workout sessions.

Apple Watch Edition

There are 6 models in the Apple Watch Edition collection. These are elegant smartwatches that have 18-karat gold cases (yellow or rose cases), a display protected by polished sapphire crystal, and a selection of exquisitely designed bands.

All the smartwatches presented above come with an iOS-based user interface that was specifically created for a smartwatch’s smaller screen. You navigate said interface with the Digital Crown – the traditional crown you use to wind up classic clocks has been turned into a navigation tool that serves as a Home Button, lets you navigate the interface, and lets you easily access Siri.

Force Touch is new technology for the Apple Watch’s Retina display. Its purpose is to make the difference between a tap and a press and thus offer a way of easily accessing controls within apps.

Apple Watch delivers notifications that you can hear and feel. That’s because the smartwatch comes with a Taptic Engine, Apple’s feedback “vibrator” that taps your wrist when you get an alert or notification, and with a built-in speaker that can play notification sounds.

You can pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone using a Bluetooth or WiFi connection.

Apple Watch will hit the market in early 2015. Pricing starts at $349.
