Apple, during a press conference held at the at its headquarters in Cupertino, California has showcased what the future holds for the iPhone’s operating system – iPhone OS 3.0. It goes without saying that Apple and iPhone fans all over the world were enthusiastically waiting to see what new bits and pieces they would get from the iPhone OS 3.0. The wait is now over, and it is with great pleasure that we announce that most of the rumors about what the iPhone OS 3.0 will encompass have come true.
Please note that this has been just a presentation; iPhone OS 3.0 is not yet available for download. The operating system will be made available for the general public this summer: iPhone users will get a free upgrade, while iPod touch users will get a paid upgrade – should cost about $10.
Without further ado, here are the new features included in the iPhone OS 3.0:
- Copy/Cut and Paste for text
- Copy/Cut and Paste for photos
- New Spotlight
- Search in Mail and Calendar
- 3G Tethering
- Landscape keyboard for certain apps (Mail, Notes, and SMS for example)
- MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)
- Web calendars support
- Enhanced stocks app
- Stereo Bluetooth A2DP audio
- Sync Notes via iTunes
- Shuffle music by shaking the iPhone
- Wi-Fi automatic login
- Phishing protection
- Enhanced parental controls. You can block access not only to web pages and music, but also to movies, TV show and apps.
- New Widgets: “voice memo” and “send and receive”
- 3rd party apps will get: P2P Bluetooth connectivity; browse other people’s iPhone content; control peripherals via the iPhone; integrated maps; combine the iPhone’s GPS info with maps to come up with turn-by-turn directions; push notification; VoIP communications; games will rumble; audio recording; access your music files from within an open app.
