On the 14th of December the iPhone 5 became available for purchase in China. Three days later Apple announced that it sold more than 2 million devices.

Cupertino-based company Apple was glad to announce that the launch of its new iPhone 5 smartphone was a big success in China. In just three days after the launch of the device, more than 2 million units were sold. From December 14th when the device went on sale until December 17 when Apple made this announcement, a couple million iPhone 5s had been sold to Chinese customers.

Apple CEO Tim Cook had this to comment:
“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China. China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”

The iPhone 5 rollout is the fastest ever – by the end of the year the device will be available in more than 100 countries. It became available for purchase in the US on the 19th of September and, as expected, a lot of people were eager to get their hands on the new iPhone and the new iOS 6 operating system that powers it. Consequently more than 5 million devices were sold in just three days after its release.

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook at the time. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”
