Unsurprisingly, Apple’s new smartphones, the iPhone 5S and the new iPhone 5c, were a big hit. The company reported record first weekend sales figures. In just three days, more than 9 million devices were sold.

Apple was also glad to announce that its new iOS 7 mobile operating system is also a huge hit. There are now more than 200 million devices out there being powered by the redesigned iOS7.

On Friday, the 20th of September, the new iPhone 5S and the new iPhone 5C went on sale the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. As I usually the case with Apple, these new products generated quite a bit of interest. And as expected, lots and lots of people rushed to the store to get a new device.

On Monday, the 23rd of September, Apple shed some light on the subject. The company explained that in the three days since the launch of the iPhone 5s and 5C, more than 9 million devices were sold. Demand for the 5S was so high that it exceeded initial supply. Consequently, many online orders were scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks.

“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”

The new iPhone 5S and 5C are powered by the redesigned iOS 7. The mobile operating system has even larger figures to boast about. According to Apple, there are now more than 200 million devices out there that use the iOS mobile operating system. This includes all the new 5S and 5C devices, as well as older devices that were upgraded to iOS 7.
