Every year Apple recognizes apps that raise the bar in design, technology and innovation and gives them an Apple Design Award. Yahoo!’s recently released weather app won an award this year at WWDC 2013.

When Yahoo! rolled out the Yahoo! Weather app for iPhone, it touted the fact that it comes with very useful functionality and a very beautiful design. Proof that the app has a stellar design came from Apple – at WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2013 the company announced the winners of the Apple Design Awards and, much to Yahoo!’s delight, the Yahoo! Weather app was among the winners.

“We’re beyond thrilled that the Yahoo! Weather for iPhone app has been chosen as one of this year’s recipients,” said Marco Wirasinghe, Director of Mobile and Emerging Products. “Apple has built their legacy designing products that are inspired by form and function, setting industry standards for beauty and simplicity. To be recognized in the design space by Apple means an incredible amount to us.”

The Yahoo! Weather app was rolled out to the public back in April. At the time, Yahoo! explained that with this app, it aims to take the routine out of checking the weather – it aims to turn it into an inspiring experience. With this app, checking the weather forecast becomes much more than reading some numbers and charts on your device’s screen. Yahoo! takes the experience to the next level by combining useful information about the weather with appealing photos from the Flickr community.
