Love 'em or hate 'em, the simple fact of the matter is that emoji are used by millions of people around the world each and every day. They’re so popular that they even have their own day of celebration, the aptly named World Emoji Day.

Google celebrated World Emoji Day by saying goodbye to Blob, the company’s old Android emoji, and by rolling out a new set of emoji as part of Android O. Skype celebrated World Emoji Day by asking (and answering) the question "is it okay to use emoji in the workplace?" And Apple celebrated World Emoji Day by presenting 12 upcoming emoji characters that will be available across Apple devices later this year.
