Yesterday was a big day for Redmond-based software giant. The much awaited Windows 7 operating system, the Windows version that should put XP and Vista to shame, has been released to the general public. Windows fans rushed to the stores to buy a Windows 7 version while Microsofties that pre-ordered the OS anxiously waited for it to be delivered. Speaking of pre-orders, Amazon UK announced that Windows 7 is one of its most successful pre-order items. Amazon UK sold more copies of Windows 7 in the first few hours it became available for pre-order than it did Vista – the whole time Vista was available for pre-order.

Windows 7 pre-orders even surpassed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Managing Director of Amazon UK, Brian McBride said. Windows 7 is the “biggest grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong. Over the past three months, only Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol has sold more copies than Windows 7, which is an incredible achievement for a software product,” said McBride.

With such a big commotion over Windows 7, would you expect the good people at Apple to sit by and do nothing? Why that would be foolish of you. The Cupertino-based company did something that put a big smile on my face: it released 3 new Get a Mac ads that make fun of Windows 7. The ads put a smile on my face because they are as funny as ever.

The three ads Apple released are:
  • Broken Promises – PC says that Windows 7 is better than all previous versions and will not be affected by the same problems that plagued Vista.
  • Teeter Tottering – Anne wants to make the big move and leave Windows XP behind. So she chooses Mac because it is rated number 1 in customer satisfaction.
  • PC News – Customer satisfaction is touted again.
