From a financial point of view, 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for Apple. The Cupertino-based company just announced that App Store customers from all over the world spent about $500 million on app and in-app purchases during the first week of January.

Apple also announced that New Year’s Day 2015 marked the single biggest day ever in App Store sales history.

In just 1 week, the first week of January 2015, people spent half a billion dollars on App Store purchases. This is an impressive milestone that follows in the footsteps of an impressive year. During 2014, app sales generated over $10 billion in revenue for developers and billings rose 50%.

“This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “We're so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion.”

That’s right! To date, developers have earned a cumulative $25 billion from the sale of apps and games via Apple’s App Store.

With the aim of helping the fight against AIDS, Apple donated a portion of holiday sales to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Apple and leading app developers put together Apps for (RED), a special section on the App Store where customers could get apps that offered exclusive new content. Thanks to all the App Store customers who purchased apps, Apps for (RED) was a big success and Apple managed to donate a record $20 million this quarter. As a little side note, it must be mentioned that Apple donated over $100 million since partnering with (RED).

In related news, you may want to know that Apple started selling SIM-free unlocked versions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the US. If you want to get a SIM-free iPhone, you can expect to pay between $649 for a 16GB iPhone 6 and $949 for a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus. The full list of prices is available here.
