To celebrate the fact that Angry Birds Go! has been downloaded more than 130 million times, Rovio Entertainment updated the free-to-play downhill race game. Here’s what’s new: local multiplayer over WiFi in Party Mode.

Two players can race against one another in the same game, as long as they’re both connected to the same WiFi network. This means that you can play one-on-one against a friend. You’re both in the same game, at the same time, in the same location – but you each get to use your own device.

"In trying to make friendly multiplayer happen in our games, there was no question that Angry Birds Go! would be the perfect fit. Anyone who played console games as a child remembers the excitement when playing with a group of friends. This is our goal with Angry Birds Go!" said Wilhelm Taht, Head of External Products at Rovio.

Right now the, local multiplayer feature is available just as one-on-one. But Rovio has plans to make it available for group play.

Rolled out to the public in December 2013, Angry Birds Go! is a free-to-play downhill race game set on a 3D Piggy Island. Enjoy thrilling, high-octane racing action by playing the game on your iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry.

Only the latest version of Angry Birds Go! for iOS and Android feature local multiplayer over WiFi in Party Mode.

In related news, Rovio Entertainment recently released a new game via its Rovio Stars mobile game publishing initiative: Sky Punks.

This is a fast-paced endless-racing game set in the exotic world of Neo Terra, a future Earth reborn by magic. Asemble a team of Punks, race your Glidewing across Neo Terra, handle the treacherous landscape, defeat other Glidewing riders.

Sky Punks is available for iOS and Android.
